Space Grant - 2017
Lead Agency: NH GRANIT, UNH Earth Systems Research Center
Primary Contact: David Justice
Start Date - End Date 12/01/2017 - 09/30/2018
Description: Object-based image analysis (OBIA) methods are being used to update the 23-class New Hampshire Land Cover Assessment for three towns in central New Hampshire: Belmont, Laconia, and Tilton. GRANIT is exploring the use of generalized LiDAR-derived land cover (generated from the 2016 NH Space Grant project) as a classification enhancement to the Land Cover product. Past experience indicates that problems arise in defining medium and low density urban features from 30-meter data. As a result, the clean-up process becomes both time consuming and expensive. We expect that the LiDAR derived land cover can help stream line the classification of Landsat-based data to achieve an improved 23-class Land Cover data set.
