Fourth Order and Higher Streams

As mandated by the Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act (CSPA), NH GRANIT at Complex Systems Research Center has been tasked with maintaining a listing of fourth order and higher streams for the State of New Hampshire. The stream order data is from the New Hampshire Hydrography Dataset (NHHD), which is an extract from the 1:24,000 scale National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) housed at the US Geological Survey. The NHD is a comprehensive spatial database that contains surface water information including lakes, ponds, wetlands, and stream networks.

The following resources are available regarding fourth order and higher streams:

1) Listing of fourth order and higher streams by stream name, stream order, and town name, summarized by stream length. This listing is available in PDF and MS Excel formats.

2) 8.5 x 11 statewide map.

3) Stream orders may be viewed from the Water Resources theme on the NH GRANIT Data Mapper, GRANIT's online mapping application.

4) For GIS users: The New Hampshire Hydrography Dataset is available to download in shapefile and geodatabase formats.

Additional information regarding the Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act can be found on the NH Department of Environmental Services website.
