Dirt to Trees to Wildlife
Lead Agency: GRANIT
Primary Contact: David Justice
Project Partner(s): UNH Cooperative Extension
Sponsor(s): USDA Forest Service, Town of Randolph
Start Date - End Date 10/01/2016 - 09/30/2018
Description: Along with UNH Cooperative Extension and Latitude Geographics Group Ltd.,
GRANIT is developing a web-based data viewer that will provide land
owners/managers with a tool to help manage a property for specific
wildlife species. The following logic will guide the tool function:
soils influence where tree species grow and tree species (or forest type) influence
wildlife species distribution. Given this tenet, the tool will summarize
the soils within an area of interest (AOI), describe forest successional
stages and Best Management Practices (BMPs) associated with the soil
units, and provide wildlife management recommendations for the associated
forest types.
