Drinking Water Source Protection Areas (SWPAs) for community and non-community, non-transient drinking water supplies. Watershed delineations for surface water intakes and groundwater sources under the direct influence of surface water.

Purpose:

Utilized by New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) for setting priorities for drinking water protection activities.

The quality of the source water protection area is based on the source data (i.e.Wells, HACS) used to delineate the area.

Completeness_Report:

Some of the SWPAs are delineated using hydrologic areas of concern as a basis for determining surface areas that flow to a surface water body. Where topography does not indicate a definitive divide the larger area is included e.g., where a wetland is located in a saddle between two ridges the watershed delineation includes all of the wetland. The boundaries of the SWPAs are being refined as watershed boundaries are improved (i.e. HUC 10, HUC 12) and new surface water sources are permitted.

The source water protection areas are entered in two different ways. Either a paper copy is provided, which is scanned then digitized using the digitizer or an area is created by setting a radius around an existing well or HAC (hydrologic area of concern).
