- Description:
-
- Abstract:
-
The NH Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) has developed geographic information on the
boundaries of shellfish growing areas in NH's tidal waters. Under the authority granted by RSA 143:21,
RSA 143:21-a and RSA 487:34, NHDES uses a set of guidelines and standards known as the National Shellfish
Sanitation Program (NSSP) for classifying shellfish growing areas.
- Purpose:
-
The purpose of this coverage is to compile all relevant information about the classification of shellfish
growing areas in NH's tidal waters.

Statement:
Polygons directly adjacent to the shoreline are delineated so the upland boundary of the polygon approximates the
the location of the high tide line. The position of the high tide line is approximate, based on manual interpretation
of aerial photography (the aerial "NH_Regional_2010_6inch_RGB" from the NH GRANIT system was the photograph source).

This field qualifies polygons into four categories: "OPEN", "OPEN (Sat.)", "CLOSED", and "MAINE". If a growing
area has the potential to be open for harvest, then it is labeled "OPEN". If a growing area is open only on
Saturdays from 9am-sunset, then it is labeled "OPEN (Sat.)". If a growing area does not have the potential to
be open for harvest, then it is labeled "CLOSED". If a growing area is in Maine, then it is labeled "MAINE".
